In Him There Is No Darkness!

As we are moving into spring and closer to summer, here’s an interesting fact that you may not know. The days are longer in summer and shorter in winter the further you move from the equator. It's generally dark on a summer night in Florida by 8:30 p.m., but in Vermont, there will still be some light at 10:00 p.m. The situation is reversed in the winter, where the sun will go down in Vermont by 3:45 p.m. while it remains light in Florida until 5:15 p.m.. Northern Alaska is called the "Land of the Midnight Sun" because it never gets dark during the summer months. That part of the earth is facing the sun all day and all night.

We tend to enjoy the light more than we do darkness because if nothing else it allows us to get more accomplished. Darkness brings a sense of uncertainty and doubt. However, in the light all things are visible where nothing is hidden. John the Apostle uses a light and darkness to illustrate our relationship to Jesus.

1 John 1

5This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. 7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

From the very beginning God has always been associated with light. The Holiness of God is described as burning (bright) or radiant. There is nothing corrupt or wrong about God. That’s why He’s described with the word, “light.” If we desire to truly take on the image of God as Christians then we must the walk in God’s light. That means there should be nothing corrupt or wrong found in us either.

Where are you walking now, in darkness or in the light? Perhaps its time we start evaluating how we live by finding the habits, speech patterns, relationships, actions and thoughts that cast a dark shadow over us spiritually and move away from them into God’s light.
