Health Care Reform Claims Another Senator's Career

A 41-year era is coming to an end in Washington D.C. Representative David Obey of Wisconsin, chairman of the Appropriations Committee, announced yesterday that he'll not seek re-election. Obey, 71, survived re-election bids through times of war, prosperity and turmoil from Nixon to Obama but apparently being the architect of the failed economic stimulus bill and a key leader in a party that ramrodded the health care bill down the throats of the American people is too much to overcome.

Despite having $1.4 million in his campaign fund, Obey says that its time to hang it up. This puts the Dems in a tough position as a Republican now takes over as chairman of the Appropriations Committee and with Obey trailing in the polls, and thus seeing the writing on the wall, another long term Democratic seat could be heading to the Republicans.
